Brookfield goes shopping, Akzo Nobel sells chemicals unit, major change at Nickelodeon

Here’s a look at some of the companies the Yahoo Finance team will be watching for you.

Brookfield Property (BPY) partners is buying mall operator General Growth Properties for $9.25B. The all-cash deal comes four months after GGP declined Brookfield’s original offer citing inadequate pricing. By the way, Brookfield already owned a third of GGP before this deal.

Dutch paint company Akzo Nobel is selling its chemicals unit to Carlyle Group (CG) for $12.5B. Akzo says the deal will allow it to focus on growing its paint business. In exchange, Carlyle gets one of Akzo Nobel’s most profitable divisions and access to chemicals used in hundreds of personal care products.

Nickelodeon (VIAB) is cutting ties with one of its most successful producers. Dan Schneider and Nick decided to part ways after nearly 30 years. Deadline Hollywood reports both sides agreed not to extend Schneider’s deal saying it was a natural time to move on. Schneider created massive hits for the network including, iCarly, Drake and Josh, and Nickelodeon’s current number one show, Henry Danger.

Amazon (AMZN) is taking grocery delivery to the city of lights. The e-commerce giant is partnering with French retail giant Monoprix to deliver groceries in Paris through Prime Now. Monoprix already offers services such as home delivery and “click and collect,” in which shoppers can choose items online and pick up in store.
