Broadcom's Quad-Core Processor for Lava QPAD

Leading semiconductor company Broadcom Corporation (BRCM) announced the selection of its quad-core HSPA+ turnkey platform by mobile manufacturer Lava International Limited to power its newly released QPAD e704 tablet.

The Turnkey Platform

Broadcom's turnkey platform optimizes power usage in the QPAD tablet, increasing standby and run times and ensuring a longer battery life. Broadcom's 1.2 GHz quad-core chipset facilitates advanced connectivity and entertainment capabilities in the feature-rich tablet, while keeping the prices affordable.

The platform also provides superior computing power, a highly integrated RF cellular transceiver for multi-mode applications and a multi-constellation GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) location chip, enabling faster signal searches and more accurate real-time navigation.

Broadcom silicon is utilized by Lava across its broad product portfolio encompassing tablets, feature phones and smartphones.

Demand Scenario

India is one of Lava’s most flourishing markets, with tablet revenues exceeding $2 billion in 2013. The growth in demand for lightweight computing devices is set to continue with prices becoming more affordable for masses. As high-quality gaming, web-browsing and entertainment become the most appealing features in mobile devices, Lava's QPAD seems poised to meet the demands head-on.

Such demand in emerging markets is driving the market for Broadcom’s affordable turnkey connectivity platform solutions. Its powerful quad-core solutions and leading connectivity suite are transforming the tablet market, bringing advanced features to consumers at an affordable price.

Broadcom currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Other stocks in the Computer and Technology sector that are worth considering include Freescale Semiconductor, Ltd. (FSL), Infinera Corporation, Inc. (INFN) and TIBCO Software Inc. (TIBX). While Freescale sports a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), Infinera and TIBCO both carry Zacks Rank #2 (Buy) each.
