Britney Spears Makes Nod To Justin Timberlake After He Requests To Make Private Apology

Days after it was reported that Justin Timberlake wanted to speak to ex-girlfriend Britney Spears in private, Spears has made a not-so-subtle nod to the 'Cry Me A River' singer.

The singer posted a video on Instagram that shows her dancing around dramatically to the slow jam 'Blue Ocean Floor' - a song by ex-boyfriend Timberlake, which happens to be about infatuation.

The singer wrote in the accompanying caption that she ‘wanted to feel graceful yesterday’, alluding probably to her elongated physical poses during the dance, but possibly also nodding to the idea that she would accept 'gracefully' the promised apology from Timberlake.

This idea is compounded by the fact that Spears dedicated the post to the future, exclaiming that she’s ‘so excited for the New Year’.

‘I like challenges they bring value!!!! What do you value in your life and how do you want to do better as a person in the future??? Things to think about going forward. God bless !!!! [sic]’ she concluded.

Timberlake’s bid to spend time 'privately' with Spears, to extend her an apology for his part in her public suffering, came only a few weeks ago, in late November.

‘Justin loves to see that Britney is now living the life that she wanted for so long. He loves seeing her embrace all the good that will come from her being out of this conservatorship. Justin would love to talk to Britney if Britney wanted to talk to him,’ a source told Hollywood Life recently.

This comes after Spears was recently freed from her 13-year-long conservatorship battle, during which time her father, Jamie Spears, formally had control over her personal, professional and financial life.

Timberlake added that despite wanting to meet with Spears, he didn’t want to interfere with ‘the life she is seeking’.

Spears first opened up about her ‘abusive’ conservatorship in June 2021, during testimony that she gave to Los Angeles court Judge Brenda Penny.

At the time, Justin Timberlake showed support via Twitter, writing: After what we saw today, we should all be supporting Britney at this time… what’s happening to her is just not right. No woman should ever be restricted from making decisions about her own body. Jess and I send our love, and our absolute support to Britney during this time. We hope the courts, and her family make this right and let her live however she wants to live.’

When the documentary Framing Britney was aired in February 2021, it highlighted many of the ways in which Timberlake was perceived to have made her public turmoil worse, such as

the moment her revealed live on air that Spears was no longer a virgin.

Addressing his former mistakes, Timberlake shared an apologetic message in the caption of an Instagram post.

‘I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right. I specifically want to apologise to Britney Spears… I know I failed,’ he wrote.

While the likes of Timberlake have been vocal in support of Spears, others have been criticised for their perceived failure to show adequate support. Christina Aguilera was called out on social media by Spears, for example, as she ‘refused to speak’ about the star in a red carpet interview, after the termination of Spears' conservatorship.

While heading into the Latin Grammy Awards, Aguilera was asked about her contact with Spears since the end of the singer's conservatorship battle, but declined to comment.

Aguilera was heard saying ‘I can’t , but I’m happy for her.’

The refusal to comment didn’t bode well with Spears, who shared Aguilera's interview on her Instagram story and accompanied it with a message to stress her point.

‘I love and adore everyone who supported me… but refusing to speak when you know the truth is equivalent to a lie!!!!,' she wrote.

’13 years being in a corrupt abusive system yet why is it such a hard topic for people to talk about??? I’m the one who went through it!!!! All the supporters who spoke up and supported me thank you… yes I do matter!!!!!’ she concluded.

Aguilera had previously shared her support for the singer via a tweet, where she wrote: ‘These past few days I’ve been thinking about Britney and everything she is going through. It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live as they wish.’
