New bright spot for Singapore - China relations

By Romesh Navaratnarajah:Singapore's Emeritus Senior Minister (ESM) Goh Chok Tong (pictured) and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao have announced that the bilateral financial cooperation between the two countries for Tianjin Eco-City, Suzhou Industrial Park is progressing well.

The two countries are also sharing insights on how to deal with the challenges facing the joint venture (JV) development.

Over the past few years, there has been rapid growth in Tianjin Eco-city, which validates the sustainability of economic progress in China.

The officials called the financial cooperation a 'new bright spot' in terms of bilateral relations, as the subject had been tackled during a meeting between Premier Wen and Mr Goh in April last year. The noted that cooperation in this area would lift trade and investment

The officials regarded the financial cooperation as a 'new bright spot' in terms of bilateral relations, as the subject has been tackled during Premier Wen and Goh's meeting in April last year. They noted that the cooperation in this area would lift trade and investment between Singapore and China.

Mr Goh, who is on a four-day trip to attend the annual plenary meeting of the InterAction Council (IAC) in China, spoke with Premier Wen on the sidelines of the meeting. The 30-year old IAC was founded as an independent international organisation through the initiative of former Japanese Prime Minister Takeo Fukuda.

Mr Goh joined the council in November 2008 and attended two plenary meetings in Hiroshima in 2010 and Quebec last year. Related Stories: CEA reminds agents of proper conduct
