If Christmas is your favourite time of the year then you’re in luck because John Lewis has unveiled their Christmas 2018 collection and they’ve heralded the biggest Christmas tree decorating trend of the year.

The in-house design team have put together seven striking, multi-sensory Christmas collections, from Ruby to Gold and Amber to Moonstone.

‘Each of our seven collections takes its lead from a particular landscape, and all the sounds, scents, and of course shades of colour associated with it,’ says Dan Cooper, Christmas Buyer at John Lewis.

But the seven collections can also be combined to create what John Lewis believe to the biggest trend of Christmas 2018 – the Rainbow Christmas tree – which the department store predicts will be a definite hit on social media.

‘Moving through the spectrum of colours on your tree from top to bottom is a sure-fire way to create a showstopping centrepiece,’ says Dan, who reveals that experimenting with colour in different and adventurous ways will be key this year.

You can create the exact look by graduating a spectrum of different coloured baubles from the top to the bottom of the tree, keeping in mind that colours used near the base of the tree will need a greater number of baubles to fill it.

‘We think that the rainbow trend we’ve seen break through this summer is set to filter through to Christmas this year,’ explains Scott Bartle, Junior Christmas Buyer at John Lewis. 'The trend originates from social media platforms like Instagram and Pinterest, where a colourful post means more likes!

'We wanted to capture customers’ imaginations by showing them how to create something truly different this Christmas, and we believe that we’ll see a lot of customers giving it a go.'

To achieve the perfect rainbow Christmas tree, John Lewis is introducing 60 colours and finishes (including matte and shiny) of plain glass baubles, all mouth-blown in Czech Republic, which will start from £2.
