The Biden-Harris Inauguration Is Shaping Up to Be a Hell of a Celebration

It’s no secret that Inauguration Day will look very different this year. President-elect Joe Biden and his team have encouraged their supporters to celebrate from home rather than attend the 59th Inaugural Ceremonies in Washington, and—in light of security and public health concerns—many traditions will be reimagined and downsized. Unlike four years ago, the Biden-Harris team has rounded up a star-studded Inauguration performance that can be watched from the safety of home.

America’s Sweetheart, Tom Hanks, will host the Celebrating America primetime special on January 20th, giving all of us the soothing virtual hug we need right about now. The lineups for the special and the swearing-in ceremony are supremely stacked, with people we actually want to see. Here are all the celebrities set to perform at the Biden-Harris Inauguration, and what you need to know to tune into this special event.

Who will perform?

In lieu of the usual Inaugural balls that follow the day’s ceremonies, the televised Celebrating America special will feature performances from artists playing at different locations across the country. Among the musicians announced so far: Bruce Springsteen, John Legend, Foo Fighters, Justin Timberlake, Ant Clemons, Jon Bon Jovi, and Demi Lovato.

According to a press release cited by The New York Times, Kerry Washington and Eva Longoria will also appear, and the program will “showcase the American people’s resilience, heroism, and unified commitment to coming together as a nation to heal and rebuild.” Earlier in the day, at the swearing-in ceremony, Lady Gaga will sing the national anthem, along with performances by Jennifer Lopez and Garth Brooks.

In place of the afternoon’s customary parade to the White House, there will be a virtual “Parade Across America” at 3:15 p.m. Scandal star Tony Goldwyn will host the event, which will feature appearances by Jon Stewart, Earth, Wind & Fire, DJ Cassidy’s Pass the Mic, Andra Day, Nile Rodgers, Kathy Sledge, The Trans Chorus of Los Angeles, Olympic athletes Katie Ledecky, Nathan Chen, and Allyson Felix, and more, plus a Dance Across America led by High School Musical director-choreographer Kenny Ortega, which will include 275 participants in 30 states and two territories.

Bonus: New Radicals will reunite for the first time in 22 years to perform their 1998 hit, “You Get What You Give,” and TikTok star Nathan Apodaca (aka @420doggface208) will appear in all his Fleetwood Mac, cranberry juice-sipping-and-skating glory.

How can you watch the special?

The “Parade Across America” will be live streamed here at 3:15 p.m. ET on January 20 and on the Presidential Inauguration Committee’s social media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Twitch. The Committee’s streaming partners, including Amazon Prime Video, Microsoft Bing, NewsNOW from Fox, and AT&T U-verse (Channel 212/1212 in SD/HD) and DIRECTV (Channel 201), will also show the parade live.

The 90-minute Celebrating America special will air on Wednesday evening at 8:30 p.m. ET, on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and MSNBC. It will be available to stream on the Presidential Inauguration Committee’s YouTube and social media pages, plus Amazon Prime Video, Twitch, and Fox’s NewsNOW.
