Bidadari HDB welcomes its first batch of residents

881 families from the Alkaff Vista and Alkaff Lakeview projects have collected their keys.

Bidadari, Singapore’s latest large real estate measuring 93ha (10,010,437 sq ft), is slowly coming to life as its first batch of residents are now occupying their Build-To-Order (BTO) Housing Board flats.

A total of 881 families from the Alkaff Vista and Alkaff Lakeview projects have been steadily collecting their keys since July 2019, reported The Straits Times.

Alkaff Lakeview houses 531 units and will overlook the new Alkaff Lake. It will soon have a childcare centre, coffee shop, supermarket and other shops.

Alkaff Vista, meanwhile, houses 350 units across four blocks and will be linked to a pedestrian and cycling network named Bidadari Greenway, which runs beside Bidadari Park Drive.

Upon its completion in 2022, the estate will contain a total of 10,000 flats.

It also features a large playground beside My World Preschool as well as a multi-purpose sheltered pavilion. A hardware shop, coffee shop and salon have also opened up in the area.

Once housing the country’s largest cemetery, Bidadari now boasts greenery as its distinctive feature. The developments have landscaped roof gardens sitting on top of a three-storey carpark, with the blocks connected to the garden per district.

Both gardens feature fitness stations, children’s playgrounds and shaded sitting areas. They also have ramps granting wheelchair access to promote ageing in the area.

The estate will also have a 10ha (1,076,391 sq ft) park that will contain open lawns, a lake, a heritage walk, experiential trails and a children’s playground.

Bidadari will be served by the Potong Pasir, Bartley and Woodleigh MRT stations, while also having the first underground bus interchange next to the Woodleigh station.

One family that has just completed home renovations and is wanting to move in before 25 January 2020, is Neo Swan Hoi and her son Kevin Neo.

“It’s so near to Chinatown, there’s going to be a supermarket downstairs and everything is new. I’m excited to move in,” said Madam Neo, owner of a drinks stall in Chinatown.

She also seems fine with Bidadari’s past function as a grave site.

“Singapore is so small; there are cemeteries everywhere but people still live near them. I’m not superstitious, so it’s not a problem.”

She also hopes to stay in her new home for a very long time.

“I like being close to nature and I have a good view of the garden from my window, so I think my son and I will enjoy living here.”
