Berjaya Corp lodges police report to identify 'unnamed source' in Forest City casino resort debacle

BCorp said it trusts the police will conduct the necessary to investigate this matter.

Berjaya Corp Bhd (BCorp), which last week had denied that its founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun participated in talks to revive a US$100 billion (RM477.60 billion) Forest City casino resort as reported recently, has lodged reports for the police to commence investigation on the above matter, specifically to, amongst others, ascertain and find out the purported “unnamed source” who disseminated complete untrue and false statements.

In a statement on Sunday, BCorp said it trusts the police will conduct the necessary to investigate this matter.

“We respectfully encourage any publication to be done more tactfully before making any allegations without prior verification,” it said.

In a statement on April 26, BCorp said the article had included inaccurate information that misrepresented the conglomerate’s supposed involvement in discussions with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim regarding the Forest City project.

In a follow up statement on Sunday, B Corp stressed that it strongly believes that the publications and/or republications of the articles, which it alleged were completely false and untrue statements, were made with malicious intent, aimed to cause political upheaval, undermine the public trust and distort the public’s perception on Yang DiPertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar and the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Such malicious publications are further aggravated by the fact that neither news agencies had made any attempt whatsoever to verify nor confirm the veracity and accuracy of the statements in the articles before publishing the same, especially when the statements were attributed to an “unnamed source”,” it said.
