BancorpSouth: 2Q Earnings Snapshot

TUPELO, Miss. (AP) _ BancorpSouth Bank (BXS) on Wednesday reported second-quarter earnings of $53.1 million.

The bank, based in Tupelo, Mississippi, said it had earnings of 53 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 61 cents per share.

The results matched Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was also for earnings of 61 cents per share.

The bank posted revenue of $257.4 million in the period. Its revenue net of interest expense was $226.3 million, falling short of Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $235 million.

BancorpSouth shares have increased nearly 8% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $28.15, a decline of 16% in the last 12 months.
