Yahoo Finance Australian Open: Two more players test positive for Covid-19 ahead of tournament

(Getty Images)The number of positive Covid-19 cases linked to the Australian Open has risen to 10 with officials revealing that two further players tested positive on Wednesday.
There were three new cases in all, with another Covid-19 case concerning a support person - but it is thought that one of those positives will be reclassified as a historical case.
One of the players in question had already been in a hard 14-day quarantine in their hotel room and officials said they were confident of containing the spread of the virus within the tennis bubble.
Professor Catherine Bennett, chair of epidemiology at Deakin University, said: “There’s probably not a big difference in risk of getting the virus between those allowed to train and those in harder lockdown.”
Victoria State police minister Lisa Neville said there had been 14 days of zero transmission in the wider community.
Of the Australian Open latest, she said: “It was seven [cases], and we became aware of three more positives today. One of them we absolutely believe is in shedding and has anyway been in hard lockdown because he came in on one of the flights with a positive test.”
