Arsenal return from Molde Europa League tie delayed after flight cancelled due to fog

Arsenal are due to arrive back in London on Friday morning after their journey home from Molde was delayed.

The Gunners had been planning to travel back to the UK straight after their Europa League game in Norway, which they won 3-0 to qualify for the knockout stages, ahead of Sunday’s match against Wolves at Emirates Stadium.

However, their plans were changed as fog back in London meant their flight had to be cancelled and instead Arsenal are due to fly back on Friday morning.

The new schedule isn’t expected to cause Mikel Arteta’s side too much disruption, with the squad still planning to train on Friday afternoon at their base in London Colney.

Arsenal used the extra time in Norway to have a post-match dinner, which involved new members of the squad, such as youngster Miguel Azeez, singing their initiation songs. Kit man Will Jones also treated the group to a rendition of Peter Andre’s Mysterious Girl.

The team then stayed overnight in the same hotel they have been using since Tuesday, before preparing to fly home on Friday morning. On the pitch, Thursday night was business as usual for Arsenal as they brushed aside Molde to make it four wins from as many games in the Europa League.

The victory means Arsenal will definitely finish top of Group B and they can now rest players for the final two matches next month. After a quiet first half, the Gunners clicked into gear as Nicolas Pepe, Reiss Nelson and Folarin Balogun all got on the scoresheet. They were big goals for the trio, with Balogun netting his first for the club and Nelson stating his case as to why he should start against Wolves on Sunday.

Pepe will be banned for that match, while Bukayo Saka and Willian are injury doubts, but the Ivorian impressed against Molde as he bounced back from his red card at Leeds last weekend.

Pepe opened the scoring and looked a threat all night, and Shkodran Mustafi believes the way the squad have supported him is part of the culture needed to win trophies.

“Nico is part of the team,” said Mustafi. “We all make mistakes and we all go through periods where things aren’t going the way you want them to go, but I think the most important thing is that the team stays behind everyone and in my opinion this is our strength.

“If you want to win something or achieve something, those are the little details that can make the difference.”
