PETALING JAYA (March 20): Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the Sarawak electorate must help Pakatan Rakyat bring down a “shameless” family empire.
Anwar said Sarawakians must no longer allow Umno and BN to exploit the state as “bank accounts".
“Development for the people of Sarawak remains elusive because of injustice, indifference and inequality. Corruption, cronyism and nepotism - the three ills which plague the whole of Malaysia under Umno and Barisan Nasional – are at their most shameless in Sarawak.
“Meanwhile, BN has propped up the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, his family and the ruling clique. And in return, they propped up BN’s corrupt rule,” he said.
Anwar promised Pakatan Rakyat will return the wealth taken by Taib and Umno to Sarawak.
“Our Pakatan manifesto builds on the Kuching Declaration: we will abolish the oppressive cabotage system to bring down the price of goods; we will foster investment incentives and job opportunities; highways will be built connecting the major cities across Sarawak and Sabah; and we will halt destructive dams and reform logging,” he said.
PKR Sarawak chief Baru Bian also launched the party’s election website for the state.
“The website called Sarawak for Change is social movement of the people of Sarawak to bring change with the theme ‘We donate RM30 to defeat Taib’.
“This is important because Sarawak is considered as a BN fixed deposit for that we call on Sarawakians to help us,” he said.
It was also announced that Baru Bian will be contesting in the Limbang parliamentary seat with Ronald Enggan for Baram, Abon Sui for Hulu Rajang and Abang Zulkifli for Batang Lupar.
Earlier, PKR director of strategy Rafizi Ramli launched the party’s mobile application that allows users access to the latest news and videos relating the party, and track the campaign trail of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and other PKR leaders.
The application will be available for download next week on Android and iOS.
