Anton Belinskiy RTW Fall 2021

With folk elements, prints featuring photographs of people from different cultures and tailored silhouettes, Anton Belinskiy’s co-ed collection was intentionally chaotic. He upcycled deadstock fabrics from his archives and entrusted local artisans in Ukraine with the creation of his open-work crochet dresses. The setting for his video was the snow-clad banks of the Kyiv Sea, the models distorted at times as if reflected in magic mirrors.

The look: Boxy tailoring, sportswear staples and the odd knit were almost ordinary, and offset with homespun, arty references and quirkier looks.

Quote of note: “This collection doesn’t have any message. It’s important not to have any message at all right now,” said Belinskiy via Zoom.

Standout pieces: Beige “mom” jeans with one photo-printed leg; an orange crochet dress with an irregular brown dot pattern; color-blocked burnt orange wool pants and shirt with an exaggerated collar and shoulder flaps; a pale orange tie-dye tailored coat.

Takeaway: Anton Belinskiy’s world is definitely idiosyncratic, but among the disparate ideas, there were covetable silhouettes.
