For those of us who view waking up early in the morning as an endeavour that’s worse than re-sitting the O levels, it’s wise to replace weekend invitations to breakfast with brunch appointments.
But nobody wants to pay $25 for a fancy version of eggs on toast. Here are eight places when you can enjoy brunch on a budget.
Whisk & Paddle

To all those people who bought BTOs in Punggol, there’s Whisk & Paddle in the area. This cafe offers a weekend brunch menu that offers great value. The star is definitely the very generous eggs benedict ($13). You can also get French Toast or a full waffle for $10.80.
The Mad Sailors

This Haji Lane cafe has a brunch menu which runs till 3pm. Their biggest, greasiest breakfast is the very tempting Good Ol’ English Fry Up, which consists of garlic and herb beef sausage with baked beans, eggs, hash brown, peas, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, toasted sourdough and turkey bacon ($22).
They’ve also got pancakes ($16), eggs benedict ($20) and potato pancakes with smoked salmon and cream cheese with coleslaw and a poached egg ($18). Keep prices to well under $15 by using The Entertainer and getting 1-for-1 on your mains.

We’re always happy to find cosy cafes in the CBD, because you need a place to slack off when your boss is on leave. This cafe’s big brekky costs just $15 and is suitably huge, with sausage, bacon, eggs and hash brown crammed into a big bowl. The brunch menu sometimes includes burgers ($12), French toast ($6) and juicy chicken meatball linguine ($11).
Brunetti

Singaporean students in Melbourne should be familiar with the famous Brunetti on Lygon Street. They also have a spin-off in Singapore, decorated in much the same way. Their breakfast menu runs till 12pm on weekdays and 1pm on weekends, and includes Italian dishes like frittata con pancetta ($15) and la burratina ($15), which consists of poached eggs and burrata cheese on bread.
Items on the all-day menu include gnocchi al parmigiano ($18.50) and lasagnetta Emiliana ($18.50). With a subscription to The Entertainer, you enjoy one-for-one mains, which means you can have a hearty brunch for under $10.

2 Men Bagel House

Freshly baked bagels are up for grabs at this new-generation bagel shop. Their bagels come in a variety of flavours including cinnamon raisin and garlic. They also have all-day breakfast “bagelwiches” for those who want something a bit more substantial, including their piglet bagelwich featuring bacon and hash brown ($8.50) and their “new” spam bagelwich ($10) featuring everyone’s favourite guilty pleasure, luncheon meat, and a sunny side up egg.
Artistry Cafe

Even if you’ve never tried their food, you might be one of many Singaporeans whose first visit to Artistry was to catch a gig or see an exhibition. Well, turns out they serve pretty good food, too. Their breakfast menu includes a big breakfast ($20), potato hash and scrambled eggs ($20) and eggs benedict ($23).
Use The Entertainer to get one-for-one on your main course and you’ll find yourself paying well under $15.
Avenue Cafe

Avenue is actually an interior design firm that runs a cafe on the premises. But even if you’re not about to overhaul your home, their beautifully designed store is still a treat to visit. Their big brekkie, which consists of buttermilk waffles and bacon, ham, scrambled eggs and salad costs $16.92, while they have other items such as croque-monsieur ($13.70) and lasagne ($13.70). With The Entertainer, you can get one-for-one mains, which means you and a friend can wolf down the big breakfast for less than $9.
