According to Kelley Blue Book, the average new car buyer paid $48,510 in April, and discounts were few and far between. The result was an increase in inventory. This isn’t good for dealerships or automakers, but it’s great for car shoppers.

Car dealers try to keep about 60 selling days’ worth of car stock. Dealers started April with about 74 and ended the month with 76, per KBB. When inventory levels go above 60, automakers will advertise incentives, and dealers may accept lower offers in negotiations.

But the situation isn’t the same for all car brands. For example, KBB noted that Toyota, Lexus and Honda have kept their inventory levels under 60 days, while other brands have well over 100.
