7 Memorial Day Sales You Won't Want to Miss

Stores all across the country will soon host some of their biggest sales of the year. In fact, some retailers have already started offering Memorial Day deals. Though the savings might seem endless, the hours in the day are not (and neither are the dollars in your bank account). To help you spend your time and money wisely, here is a list of stores with some of the best Memorial Day sales you'll find.

Sears

For nearly 130 years, Sears has served consumers as a one-stop shop for almost any kind of merchandise you could consider, from apparel to automotive supplies. While Sears is almost guaranteed to have some kind of across-the-board discount for Memorial Day, sales on appliances will steal the show. Sears offers some of the best deals on refrigerators, dishwashers and washing machines year-round. When major sales events like Memorial Day come along, prices on appliances plummet. The exact manner of the discount can vary. For instance, one of their Memorial Day deals last year combined a 20 percent markdown with a $35 price cut on orders over $300, which is in addition to the product-specific price reductions.

Macy's

Watch high prices on apparel disappear Memorial Day, thanks to the magic of Macy's. As a mid-range chain of department stores, Macy's can be affordable for some, but expensive for others. Those with tighter budgets should swing by Macy's on Memorial Day and take advantage of the substantial sale, especially if clothing sits at the top of your shopping list. Macy's has fine selections of cookware and furniture, but the breadth and depth of their apparel offerings are truly tough to beat.

Home Depot

If you're in the market for tools or outdoor equipment, Home Depot is most definitely a must on Memorial Day. In addition to price reductions on particular products across categories ranging from paint to plants, Home Depot will offer 10 percent off all appliances, as well as free shipping on patio furniture and grills over $499. If you've got a green thumb, make sure to stock up on mulch and other gardening supplies, which tend to get great group discounts. Just know that you'll probably have to venture in-store to claim certain deals.

Kohl's

Compared to Macy's and Sears, Kohl's is a young department store chain, founded in 1962. Fortunately for frugal shoppers, age has little to do with savings. The sales at Kohl's are some of the best around, and they get even better around Memorial Day. While there's likely to be a storewide sale of some kind, certain product categories may see more substantial markdowns than others. Also, remember to look online to see if there are any exclusive promo codes that could get you a better deal than what's being sold in-store.

Cabela's

If you've never been to Cabela's before, walking up to its rustic, wood cabin exterior for the first time should give you a clue as to the type of merchandise they sell. Cabela's is a specialty retailer of hunting, fishing, camping and related outdoor gear. The Memorial Day sale is already in full swing, lasting May 14 through May 25. Shoppers stand to save 20 to 50 percent on sunglasses, swimsuits, fishing rods, sleeping bags and much, much more. If you still need to get a gift for Father's Day, shopping at Cabela's during the Memorial Day sale could be your best bet.

Mattress Dealers

Looking to swap out your mattress for a NASA-engineered slice of memory foam magnificence, or maybe you just want something a little less lumpy? Either way, Memorial Day is an ideal time to buy a new mattress. While the previously mentioned department stores might have decent deals on mattresses, you'll probably get more bang for your buck if you go to a specialty store like Mattress Firm. Not only will you find a wider variety of options, but you'll likely get a better deal on financing, too. Mattress Firm is currently offering 0 percent interest rate for five years.

Furniture Stores

Is your coffee table looking tired? Does your sofa seem a little sad? Has your once perfect dining set fallen to pieces? Then Memorial Day might be the moment you were waiting for to upgrade or replace your furniture. Like mattresses, you can probably find a piece of furniture or two you like for a decent price at department stores, but retailers that sell furniture exclusively will likely have more, and quite possibly better bargains. And like mattress dealers, furniture stores will have great rates on financing. For purchases over $599.99, Rooms To Go will give shoppers who decide to finance 60 months interest free. That's a deal that's hard to beat.
