A shocking 71 per cent of Brits don’t clean their home appliances on a regular basis, according to new research. It also turns out that some items are more neglected than others.
The survey of 1,015 UK adults carried out by household appliances retailer, AppliancesDirect.co.uk, found that the washing machine is the dirtiest item, only being cleaned on average once every year. In second place is the oven, cleaned on average only twice a year.
See the rest of the top five, along with the frequency of the appliance being cleaned, in the list below…
5 least cleaned home appliances
1. Washing Machine – once per year
2. Oven – twice per year
3. Dishwasher – 3 times per year
4. Fridge – 8 times per year
5. Microwave – 21 times per year
More than one in three (34 per cent) participants admitted that they hire a professional to do this cleaning work for them and 23 per cent revealed that this lack of cleaning means their appliances are replaced more regularly.
On top of this, it seems that age plays a role in cleaning habits – those aged 25-34 years old were found to be the age group who clean their appliances the least.
'Instead of dodging these chores and bringing in the professionals, by investing in some cleaning tools, the job will be a lot easier and cheaper for those concerned,' Mark Kelly, marketing manager at AppliancesDirect.co.uk said. 'Also, it will mean appliances won’t have to be replaced as frequently, so it is really important that Brits look after their domestic gadgets.'
