If you're Singaporean, it is probably not uncommon for you to be embroiled in conversations with family and friends who often speak of their desire to get rich and become a millionaire someday. Truth be told, there are many millionaires residing on our sunny shores and it's not hard to see why so many people openly lust after lifestyles that befit the privileged and wealthy.
It's absolutely okay to dream the dream of becoming a millionaire and be willing to work towards that goal of yours but just be sure to do it in a smart and productive way. Here at GET.com, we've rounded up 4 signs that suggest that you could be a foolish millionaire wannabe and you would be better off chasing your millionaire dreams in other, more solid ways.
4 Signs You Are A Foolish Millionaire Wannabe
1. You Bet On Lotteries Every Week
This is a common activity that Singaporeans of all ages participate in because "never buy means no hope" (roughly translated from Chinese; pardon the uncouth sounding phrase).
Are you even aware of the real probability of striking it big at lotteries like TOTO, 4D or Singapore Sweep? If you care to find out about real statistics, click here, here and here to navigate around Singapore Pools' official website.
If you don't care for mathematics and just want to bank on luck, I can only wish you even more luck because sure enough, there'll always be people winning it big but we just don't know when it'll be your turn.
2. You Blow Away Your Savings In The Casinos
You know you're slightly addicted to gambling when stepping foot into the casino at Marina Bay Sands or Resorts World Sentosa is as prevalent as going to the supermarket to shop for groceries and household necessities. You think that if you hold out long enough, Lady Luck will bestow her goodness upon you and let you earn a windfall.
Apparently, the $100 levy placed on Singaporeans who wish to get into the casinos isn't quite working for those adamant about cashing it out big. Blowing off your lifelong savings, salaries and CPF monies is commonplace for those who need the capital to play it big so that they'll win big, too.
Honestly speaking, if you have so much spare cash, why not invest your money to make it grow or donate some to charities to do some good for society rather than "donating" your money to these mega rich establishments?
3. You Orchestrate Online Scams To Cheat Others
Elaborate and not-so-elaborate online scams have time and again surfaced in Singapore with a reported alarming loss of $1.59 million to online credit-for-sex scams in just the first half of 2015.
Do you have a despicable allure of cheating innocent beings of their hard earned money? You may think you're witty and careful enough to outsmart the rest of the population - but how can you ensure that you can live with your conscience and not get caught by the authorities?
I don't know about you but I'd rather make money by being gainfully employed, saving and investing legitimately.

4. You Think Get-Rich-Quick Schemes Are Real
First things first, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. This isn't rocket science, one of the surest ways to get rich(er) is to make our money work hard for us. We can do this by being tirelessly entrepreneurial and investing our capital in properties, financial products or even genuine rare artworks.
There is no such thing as you becoming a millionaire without having to lift a finger. Get-Rich-Quick schemes are all over the world, including Singapore, and they're seriously pretty annoying to even look at. Those Get-Rich-Quick seminars that promise that you'll reap a ton of money aren't real either. The same applies to pseudo investments that promise you above-average returns at little to no risk.
