Marco Asensio will reportedly snub offers from Liverpool this summer in favour of a move to AC Milan.
The Real Madrid forward, whose contract expires at the end of next season, is thought to be available at a cut price this summer as the La Liga giants look to move him on before he becomes available for free in 12 months time.
A report on Monday claimed Arsenal will ‘go all out’ to sign the Spain international, who is a ‘great objective’ for the Gunners in the current window, but Liverpool have also been linked in recent days.
And Sport (via the Daily Mail) have confirmed Jurgen Klopp’s desire to sign Asensio this summer as he looks to bolster his forward options following the departure of Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich.
But the report states that Asensio – who’s valued at £34m – is wary of a move to Anfield as he fears he wil struggle for game time, just as he has in recent times at Madrid.
He would be competing with Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Roberto Firmino and Darwin Nunez for a place in Klopp’s front three, leading him to believe he would be a bit-part player at best were he to move to the Premier League side.
The report claims that the strength in depth at Liverpool means Asensio would prefer a move to AC Milan this summer.
Asensio told reporters on international duty that he would hold talks with relevant parties over his future, claiming there ‘are possibilities’ to move away from tehe Bernabeu.
“I have one year left on my contract. Now, I am focused on the national team,” he said.
“When this is over, we will talk. We will see what I will do with my future. I think there are possibilities. There is also the option to stay and fulfil my contract year.
“Rumours are part of football, and more so at Real Madrid. High-level players are always associated with it. It’s something we have to live with.”
