This article was originally on GET.com at: 3 Genius Money-Saving Shopping Hacks All Singaporeans Must Try

Do you hate how things have become more and more expensive over the years in Singapore? A hundred bucks today most likely cannot get you as much as you could have back in the days when things were less expensive. Plus, it does not help that we've all heard our fair share about the slowing Singapore economy. What matters the most now is that we better ourselves, stay relevant in the work force and spend our money smartly amidst the economic slowdown.

If you still can afford to keep up with your shopping penchants without getting into debt or becoming a burden to your loved ones, perhaps it's time you take a step back and see how you can stretch your money without giving up shopping altogether in a bid to save more money for rainy days, putting food on the table, supporting your kids' education, etc. Here, we at GET.com share with you 3 smart money-saving shopping tips that you have to try. Say goodbye to FOMO (fear of missing out)!

3 Genius Money-Saving Shopping Hacks All Singaporeans Must Try

1. Shoot For Cheaper Shopping Options

Whether you are shopping for groceries, necessities, or clothes, it pays to be a savvy shopper and go for less expensive alternatives if you want to save your hard-earned money. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Cold Storage but I've made the mistake twice on separate occasions of paying approximately 25% more for my walnuts and kimchi even though the exact same products retail for less in NTUC FairPrice and probably the other not-so-atas supermarkets, as well.

The bottom line is that if you know where to shop smartly, you'll get to stretch your money a bit more. BigBox, Changi City Point, IMM and Anchor Point are just some of the cheap places you can shop at for your daily needs. Consider re-visiting Bugis Street or go thrift-shopping when you need new outfits but don't wish to break the bank.

Don't forget about ValuDollar stores when you need to stock up household items and/or snacks. I bought a wear-at-home cotton T-shirt there for $1 back when I was in secondary school and it's still holding up pretty well.

2. Do Some Of Your Shopping At Changi Airport

All true blue Singaporeans love shopping at the duty free stores in Changi Airport prior to departure and upon arrival because, really, who doesn't want to grab things we would have bought anyway at a lower cost since the 7% GST is waived? This might not be one of the most secret attractions at Changi Airport, but it is one that our wallets will thank us for.

You can enjoy the same privilege when you shop (and dine) and participating stores in the public areas if you have the Changi Rewards Card. This means you get to save on the 7% GST and earn rewards points even when you are not flying.

Signing up for the card is free and you can do it online in a breeze. You can find out more about participating stores and FAQs here.

3. Use The Right Cards Whenever Possible

Cash is convenient but so are cards that give you hassle-free rewards and savings. There are credit card money-saving hacks that you can employ in Singapore to make each dollar that you spend go a little further.

Be it cashback credit cards, rewards credit cards or even air miles credit cards, use them to earn and accumulate tangible rewards for yourself.

Here are two of the best shopping credit cards in Singapore that you might want to learn more about if you are someone who shops a lot.
