SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed 16 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore on Thursday (15 April), taking the country's total case count to 60,735.

All 16 cases are imported. "All new cases today are asymptomatic, and were detected from our proactive screening and surveillance," said the MOH.

Among the 16 imported cases, three are permanent residents who returned from India and the Philippines.

One other case is a dependant’s pass holder who arrived from India, while another is a work pass holder who arrived from Malaysia.

Ten cases are work permit holders who arrived from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, of whom five are foreign domestic workers.

The remaining case is a short-term visit pass holder who arrived from India to visit his family member who is a PR.

All 16 imported cases were placed on the stay-home notice upon their arrival here and were tested while serving their notice.

The MOH noted that the number of new cases in the community has remained stable at two per week in the past two weeks. The number of unlinked cases in the community has decreased from two in the week before to one in the past week.

Wednesday's sole community case – linked to previous infections – is a 44-year-old male Papua New Guinea national and a short-term visit pass holder who arrived from Australia on 25 March for a work project here.

He is linked to a new "case 61360" cluster which has a total of four infections. The cluster is named after the case number of a 50-year-old male Colombian national who arrived from Papua New Guinea for a work project in Singapore and was confirmed to have COVID-19 on 30 March.

99% of total cases have recovered, 2 in ICU

With 25 more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Thursday, 60,417 cases – or 99.5 per cent of the total – have fully recovered from the infection.

Most of the 57 hospitalised cases are stable or improving, while two of them are in the intensive care unit.

A total of 231 patients – with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive – are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

Apart from the 30 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four, whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.

Amongst the 160 confirmed cases reported from 9 to 15 April, 57 cases have tested positive for their serology tests, 74 have tested negative, and 29 serology test results are pending.
