(Reuters) -Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has been awarded a full payments licence to operate in Singapore by the city-state's central bank, the U.S.-based company said on Monday. The Major Payment Institution (MPI) licence, granted by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), will allow Coinbase to offer digital payment token services to individuals and institutions in Singapore, which has emerged as a centre for crypto in Asia in recent years. Coinbase, the world's largest listed crypto exchange, was granted initial approval in October last year.
Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland President Loretta Mester said Monday that the U.S. central bank most likely isn’t done raising interest rates amid ongoing inflation pressures. “I suspect we may well need to raise the fed funds rate once more this year and then hold it there for some time as we accumulate more information on economic developments and assess the effects of the tightening in financial conditions that has already occurred,” Mester said in the text of a speech to a group in Cleveland. “But whether the fed funds rate needs to go higher than its current level and for how long policy needs to remain restrictive will depend on how the economy evolves relative to the outlook,” which is bounded by considerable uncertainty right now, the official said.

Bank debt sales in Singapore are tracking toward a second consecutive annual record as attractive currency swaps and cash-rich investors lure issuers to a traditionally domestic market and drive momentum that participants expect will continue. Some $2.4 billion worth of "Tier 2" notes, issued by banks for reserve capital requirements, have been sold in Singapore dollars this year - already nudging last year's $2.6 billion record - according to London Stock Exchange Group data. "When the dollar space is stressed, people seek out alternative markets," said Clifford Lee, managing director and global head of fixed income at DBS Bank in Singapore.
NEW YORK (Reuters) -Oil prices fell about 2% on Monday to a three-week low as a higher-priced Brent contract expired, the U.S. dollar strengthened and traders took profits, concerned about rising crude supplies and pressure on demand from high interest rates. On its first day as the front-month, Brent futures for December delivery settled $1.49, or 1.6%, lower at $90.71 a barrel, or down about 5% from where the November contract expired on Friday. Analysts said some traders took profits after crude prices rose nearly 30% to 10-month highs in the third quarter.

(Reuters) -Singapore's Vertex Technology Acquisition Corp (VTAC) will buy live streaming platform 17LIVE Inc for up to S$925.1 million ($676 million), the special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) backed by state investor Temasek said on Monday. The deal is the first purchase of a private company by a SPAC listed in the city-state since 2021 when the Singapore Exchange allowed SPACs, or shell firms, to float shares in a bid to position itself as a hub for this type of vehicle in Asia. VTAC was Singapore's first SPAC to be listed, going public in early 2022 and raising about S$200 million.
