| The investment seeks to conserve principal, produce current income, and achieve long-term capital appreciation. The fund flexibly uses a "balanced" approach by investing part of the assets in common stocks and the remainder in a combination of U.S. Government bonds, investment-grade corporate bonds, collateralized mortgage obligations, mortgage-backed securities, convertible bonds, cash, and money market instruments. It invests at least 25% of assets in fixed income securities, all of which are rated BBB or better (investment grade).
