The Shipping Corporation of India Limited provides shipping services in India and internationally. Its fleet includes bulk carriers, crude oil tankers, product tankers, container vessels, passenger-cum-cargo vessels, phosphoric acid / chemical carriers, LPG / ammonia carriers, and offshore supply vessels. The companys bulk carriers transport cargos, such as iron ore, coal, coke, grain, fertilizer, steel, plywood, and bauxite products; product tankers are used for the coastal movement of petroleum products; and passenger-cum-cargo vessels provide transportation services between the Mainland and Andaman and Nicobar group of islands. It is also involved in chartering various kinds of ships, as well as in lighterage operations. In addition, the company provides offshore services, such as towing and anchor handling, carriage of men and materials, standby and rescue, routine surveillance, and fire fighting services, as well as operations, manning, maintenance, and management services for vessels. Further, it offers shipbuilding consultancy assistance services for new building vessels, including project viability and feasibility, design consultancy, project management, and site supervision; and for the acquisition of second-hand ships, such as identifying the type and size of vessels, receipt and evaluation of offers, inspection of class records, physical inspection of vessels, processing specific proposals for owners/government approval, and taking delivery of the vessels. Additionally, the company provides liner break-bulk and container services, as well as training services. As of August 1, 2012, it operated a fleet of approximately 75 ships.
