This segment owns and operates 170 substations with a capacity of 11,322 megavolt amperes. The Investments and Other segment is involved in the coal mining operations in North Dakota; and real estate investment activities in Florida. It also provides seller financing; and develops or acquires projects that focuses on creating energy solutions via wind, solar, biomass, hydro, natural gas/liquids, shale resources, clean coal, and other clean energy innovations. In addition, this segment engages in the non-rate base generation; and holds approximately 6,100 acres of land in Minnesota. The company primarily serves taconite mining, iron concentrate, paper, pulp and wood products, and pipeline industries. ALLETE, Inc. was founded in 1906 and is headquartered in Duluth, Minnesota.
