Icon-wonderful-daySome of the three tasks that most of us hate and/or tend to forget: 1. Going for a weekly jog, 2. paying monthly bills, and 3. buying diapers for kids. It’s hard to keep up with these routines because sometimes we just have so many other obligations and distractions in life.
So Wonderful Day is here to save your day. It is an app shouldering the duty to remind you about such routine tasks and make sure you do them. The user will mark green if he does it and red if he doesn’t.
Of course, the app doesn’t penalize you if you don’t complete tasks (it wouldn’t know anyway) but I’m sure you will feel guilty when you see more red dots than green ones while munching your fries and gulping your beer. Though the user can actually fake the green mark but that’s just self deception which is pure stupidity.
The app is dead simple. So users should be able to understand how the it works within 60 seconds. Shalin Jain, the founder and CEO of Tenmiles, the company behind Wonderful Day, explained to me how the idea was inspired:
Wonderful Day is in a way inspired by Jerry Seinfeld’s Productivity Secret, it visualizes your goals in a way that screams out “Don’t break the chain!” It was something I could immediately relate to and started following. The next thing I wanted was a simple app that could help me do this on my iPhone. It started as a pet project… But we got really excited about it and released it on the [app store].
wonderful-dayAnd it seems like the right move too. After publishing the app for a day, Wonderful Day is now one of the top paid productivity apps on iTunes, currently number two in India (though the actual download figures aren’t known yet to him).
In the future, Shalin plans to keep the app lightweight and free of cluttered features. One of his plans is to add Twitter integration to Wonderful Day so users can tweet and show off their achievements. Votodo, also an Indian startup has something similar too. Location-based features could possibly be one of the additional features.
I’m liking the Wonderful Day app so far and can understand why people are flocking into the app store to download it. But on a fair note, I’m also suspecting that I might not remember to check what I’m supposed to do on Wonderful Day app. Sounds silly, but such things happen.
