Wal-Mart says after its trucker accused in Tracy Morgan crash: Safety highest priority

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) -- Wal-Mart says after one of its truck drivers was accused of causing a New Jersey highway crash that injured actor and comedian Tracy Morgan and killed one of his friends that safety is its highest priority.

A spokesman for Morgan says he faces an "arduous" recovery. Spokesman Lewis Kay said in an email Monday that Morgan underwent surgery on a broken leg at a New Brunswick hospital and remains in critical but stable condition.

A Wal-Mart truck driver has been charged with vehicular homicide and assault by auto in the Saturday morning crash on the New Jersey Turnpike. Authorities say the Georgia trucker hadn't slept for more than 24 hours before the crash.

Bentonville, Arkansas-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. says its drivers have to meet very high standards.
