Mexican oil giant Pemex announced Wednesday that it was awarding a $509 million contract to Singapore's Keppel FELS to build two drilling rigs for shallow waters in the Gulf of Mexico.
The two jack-up rigs -- self-elevating mobile platforms that stand on the seabed when their legs are lowered -- are due for delivery in the first quarter of 2015.
Pemex is the world's fourth-largest crude producer with around 2.5 million barrels per day. Keppel FELS is a unit of Singapore's Keppel Corp.
