By Romesh Navaratnarajah:In a bid to improve the quality of living in Singapore, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) will implement creative strategies to tap on Singapore's key natural assets, according to a report by Singapore Business Review.
Under its "City in a Garden" plan, the URA will build 150km of a round-island route and 360km of park connectors to be ready by 2020.
To create the concept, URA will deliberately introduce lush greenery in various areas, from streetscape and skyrise greenery to parks located within 400m of most homes.
"Park connectors, a novel idea using drainage space, have linked up parks to offer bigger and more extensive green spaces. 360km of park connectors will be built by 2020 and a 150km round-island route is in the pipeline," the URA noted.
In addition, boardwalks, bridges and promenades have been built in recent years to connect green spaces and activity nodes and offer easy access to the coastline and waterfront.
