SIA Group's load factor drops to 77.9%

Blame it on weaker passenger demands in Asian regions.

Despite a slight uptick in passenger carriage at 0.1%, Singapore Airlines has suffered declining passenger load factor (PLF), which measures the airline’s capacity to fill in seats and generate revenue.

According to an announcement filed in Singapore Exchange, the group’s load factor dropped to 77.9% in the previous month, compared to the 80.2% recorded in the same period last year.

Load factor across East Asia has remained flat, but it has seen declines for all other regions due to weaker passenger demand.

Singapore Airlines' PLF dipped 2.1 points to 78.7%, while SilkAir's load factor declined 1 point to 65.7%. Scoot also experienced a drop, declining 4.9 points to 78.6%. Fate’s the same with Tigerair as its PLF fell 2.7 points to 79%.

“The competitive landscape remains challenging and promotional activities will continue in relevant markets,” the group said.
