Rite Aid acquires Health Dialog Services

Rite Aid buys Health Dialog Services in deal that will expand health coaching program

NEW YORK (AP) -- Rite Aid said Tuesday that it bought Health Dialog Services in a deal intended to help the company expand its health coaching program for people with chronic ailments.

The companies didn't disclose terms of the deal. Health Dialog Services is based in Boston, and it was owned by Bupa, a health care services group headquartered in London.

For more than a year, the companies have been working together on Rite Aid's Health Alliance product, in which pharmacists and health care coaches work with patients on health and self-management. Rite Aid said the program is intended to improve care and support for people with chronic conditions like congestive heart failure, lung disease, high cholesterol, and diabetes.

Rite Aid said the purchase of Health Dialog Services will allow it to bring Health Alliance to more markets.

Rite Aid Corp. is based in Camp Hill, Pa. It runs about 4,600 stores in 31 states and Washington, D.C. Its shares rose 9 cents to $6.36 in morning trading.
