DEFLATED: Talisman Energy Inc. is pulling out of exploration for shale gas in Poland, a blow to the country's hopes for cutting its dependence on Russian supplies of gas and bolster its weak economy.
WHERE'S THE GAS? Canada's Talisman said it had not found enough gas to warrant further expensive exploration. It will sell its Polish interests and focus on easier-to-get deposits elsewhere.
FUELING THE ECONOMY: The Polish government hoped that a boom in investment would help the economy, which has slowed sharply. It grew just 1.9 percent last year, down from 4.5 percent in 2011.
