Key 4Q revenue metric rises slightly for Denny's

Key fourth-quarter revenue metric rises slightly for restaurant chain Denny's

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- Denny's Corp. said Monday that preliminary revenue from its established U.S. restaurants, a key retail metric, inched up nearly 1 percent in the fourth quarter.

Revenue from franchised restaurants open at least a year rose less than 1 percent, while revenue from company restaurants rose 1.5 percent. Overall revenue from established stores rose 0.9 percent in the quarter that ended on Dec. 25.

The restaurant chain had 1,537 franchised locations as of late December and 163 company-operated sites.

Sales at stores open at least a year are considered an important measurement of retailer health because they exclude results from stores that have opened or closed within the last year. Those openings and closings can skew ongoing trends.

Denny's expects to report fourth-quarter results after markets close on Feb. 19.

Shares of the Spartanburg, S.C.-based company were unchanged in late morning trading.
