J.C. Penney Co. Inc., down 82 cents to $7.37

Investors were spooked by a news release from the retailer that said it was "pleased" with its holiday-period performance but offered no specific sales data.

Constellation Brands Inc., up $6.68 to $76.61

The wine, liquor and beer seller easily topped Wall Street's expectations for the third quarter with a 93 percent profit surge.

Forest Laboratories Inc., up $10.54 to $69.30

The drugmaker is buying Aptalis for $2.9 billion and getting access to treatments for gastrointestinal issues and cystic fibrosis.

Micron Technology Inc., up $2.14 to $23.87

The chipmaker reversed a year-ago loss during the first quarter and its revenue more than doubled thanks in part to an acquisition.

SodaStream International Ltd., up $1.92 to $50.34

KeyBanc Capital Markets initiated coverage of the soda machine maker with a "Buy" rating and a $70 price target.

NuPathe Inc., up $1.15 to $4.38

A rival buyout offer has arrived for the specialty pharmaceutical company from Teva, topping an earlier bid from Endo Health.

Apollo Education Group Inc., up $3.83 to $30.76

The for-profit education company did not fare as poorly during the first quarter as many had expected, given declining enrollment.

Riverbed Technology Inc., up $1.68 to $19.53

Elliott Management, one of the computer networking company's biggest shareholders, made a buyout offer of nearly $3.08 billion.
