Dominion seeks federal OK for natural gas projects

Dominion Resources seeks federal approval for 2 natural gas projects in NY, W.Va. and Ohio

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Dominion Resources Inc. is seeking federal approval for two projects that would provide additional natural gas supplies from the Appalachian region.

The Richmond, Virginia-based energy company said Tuesday that it has asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for approval of the $235 million projects.

Dominion says the projects in upstate New York, West Virginia and Ohio will support the growing demand for natural gas produced from the Marcellus and Utica shales.

The projects would allow natural gas to move through existing pipelines more quickly. If approved, the projects would be placed into service by November 2016.

Dominion also operates one of the nation's largest natural gas storage systems with 947 billion cubic feet of storage capacity and has 10,900 miles of natural gas transmission, gathering and storage pipeline.
