By Romesh Navaratnarajah: Residents (pictured) at a HDB block in Bukit Batok are upset with an elderly neighbour who has been making loud banging noises in the wee hours of the morning.
Those living at Block 312 Bukit Batok Street 32 claimed that the woman in her late 50s began making the noises some 15 years ago. Apparently, the noises stopped for a while but have come back.
As early as 1988, residents had petitioned authorities as well as their Member of Parliament to resolve the issue.
MP Amy Khor, HDB officers and Residents' Committee members had already spoken to her and the noises became less frequent for a short period of time.
However in January, the banging started to pick up again. Social workers have urged her to seek treatment at the Institute of Mental Health but she refused. Hence, her neighbours now want her evicted from the block.
