Allscripts posts smaller 4th-quarter loss and says contract bookings climbed 52 percent

NEW YORK (AP) -- Electronic health records company Allscripts said Thursday it took a smaller loss in the fourth quarter and that contract bookings continued to grow.

The Chicago company pared its loss to $20.6 million, or 12 cents per share, from $24.3 million, or 14 cents per share. Excluding a series of one-time charges Allscripts said it earned 8 cents per share. Revenue inched up to $351 million from $350.9 million.

FactSet says analysts expected net income of 8 cents per share and $344.7 million in revenue.

The company said it booked $274 million worth of contracts during the fourth quarter, up 52 percent from the same period in 2012. At the end of the year it had a backlog of $3.4 billion in contracts, up 21 percent from the end of 2012.
